Pistons lose to Flyers in last game of the season

The Steinbach Pistons played their last game of the season on Sunday night in Steinbach against the Winkler Flyers. They put in a strong performance, coming back to tie it in the last few minutes of the 3rd, but their youth showed once again as the Flyers scored a couple late goals to win it late 5-3.

Jordan Peters opened the scoring 13:07 into the 1st period to give the Flyers the lead. Under 3 minutes later the Pistons tied it on a goal by Eric Coulombe, assisted by Tyler Lazaruk. With 1:43 remaining the Flyers reclaimed the lead with a Graham Fast goal.

Tyler Peers scored 2:36 into the 2nd period, assisted by Francois Houde, to tie the game at 2. It would stay that way until Jordan Peters scored his 2nd of the game, on the powerplay, with 38 seconds remaining in the period to give the Flyers a 3-2 lead after the 2nd period.

There would be no scoring in the 3rd period until Eric Coulombe tied the game with just 2:10 remaining, assisted by Josh Rutherford on the powerplay. Nick Lazorko would spoil the comeback, however, and give the Flyers the lead again with 1:21 remaining. Shael Hechter added an empty net goal with 35 seconds to go to make it 5-3.

Addison Herosian stopped 42 of 46 shots for the Pistons, while Peter Alexander and Carey Dyck shared the netminding duties for the Flyers, stopping 30 of 33.
