The Steinbach Pistons are ecstatic to announce Calgary Flames defenceman Ian White as the team's honorary captain.
Growing up in Steinbach and playing his minor hockey for the Steinbach Millers Minor Hockey Association and later AAA Midget Eastman Selects, White has showed determination and perseverance in reaching his dream of playing in the National Hockey League.
The 5-foot-10 defenceman spoke to the 70-plus players participating in the Steinbach Pistons main camp on Wednesday afternoon about his journey from the junior ranks into professional hockey, specifically not giving up when facing a road block.
This past season White was a healthy scratch for several games only to become one of Toronto's top defenceman by the end of the season and earn a spot on Team Canada for the World Hockey Championships this past May.
White last played in Steinbach during the 1999-2000 season while with the Eastman Selects. It was season in which he tallied 29 goals and 62 points in 32 games before moving onto the Western Hockey League as a member of the Swift Current Broncos.
It was also announced that Mr. Ian White has made a significant financial contribution to the Steinbach Pistons and has been added to the Steinbach Pistons Founders Club.
