Peters named Volunteer of the Month

The Steinbach Pistons, along with Manitoba Liquor and Lotteries, selected Martha Peters as their Volunteer of the Month for February.

Peters has spent her time on the front lines as one of the friendly faces who help run the ticket gates. She has been a volunteer with the Pistons for the past 8 years, and hopes to continue that path.

Peters received her award during the last home game on February 28th from Claude Plante, Manitoba Liquor and Lotteries representative and the manager of Steinbach Liquor Mart.

One of Peters’ favorite moments volunteering is greeting Pistons fans as they walk through the door to the TG Smith Centre. “We are the first people they see,” she explained. “If I can put a smile on their face, they are pretty much happy.”

Peters comes from a hockey oriented family, and that has fueled her love for Canada’s game. Her sons played minor hockey in Steinbach, and her nephew is the Pistons Head Coach Paul Dyck. “I am very proud of him and the team,” she exclaimed. “I have always had a passion for hockey, and enjoy the ambiance of the arena.”

Peters finds it very rewarding to be able to be a part of the Pistons volunteer community. “Volunteering at the gate is a great way of giving back to the community, and it’s rewarding being a part of this hockey family and an atmosphere of excitement with supporting our local team,” she said. “I would encourage anyone to join our team of volunteers!”

There are tons of different opportunities to join a dedicated group of volunteers with the Steinbach Pistons. We are always looking for more volunteers to help during game days, including ticket gate attendants like Martha, security guards, goal judges, score keepers, photographers, and PA announcers. We are now looking for volunteers to help us run our LED screen on game days. These include camera operators, and people to help run video switchers, music, and instant replay. If you want to take your support of the Pistons to the next level, or are just looking for more information, email [email protected] for more details.
