Pistons acquire F Martin from Wolverines

The Steinbach Pistons acquired F Brendan Martin (’98) Friday from the Waywayseecappo Wolverines in exchange for F Drew Anderson (’98) and D Alec Severson (’99).

Martin is from Thunder Bay, and is in his second year in the MJHL. He registered 46 points in 56 games in his rookie season with the Wolverines and the Portage Terriers. This season he has tallied one goal and four assists in seven games with the Wolverines.

“Brendan is a player that will make us deeper up front,” said head coach Paul Dyck. “He is a strong guy whose experience in the league will benefit us.”

Dyck also believes that Martin has a knack for scoring a lot of goals. “He has the ability to make plays with the puck around the net,” he said. “He can play in a few different spots, and we will use him on the left side (to start).”

He was explosive as a midget hockey player, tallying 84 points in 54 games played with the Fort William Hurricanes in the 2014-15 season.

“He has a lot of upside to his game,” Dyck said. “We believe he can be an upper echelon forward at our level. He is only 19 years old, so with 2 years of junior remaining he has a good opportunity in front of him.”

The Steinbach Pistons are excited to welcome Brendan to the team.
