Pistons Secure 6th Road Victory of the Season

It was another balanced scoring effort on the road, as the Steinbach Pistons defeated the Waywayseecappo Wolverines 9-1 on Saturday night at the Waywayseecappo Arena Complex.

Bradley Schoonbaert and captain Braden Purtill both tallied three points on the game, and Daniel McKitrick scored two goals. Drew Worrad and Nolan Ferguson both added two assists on the night. It didn’t matter what situation they were, as Steinbach scored goals even-strength, on the power-play, and short-handed.

Starter Matt Radomsky made 14 saves in the Pistons victory, while counterparts Ethan Peterson and Curtis Stewart combined to stop 47 of 56 Steinbach shots. The Pistons scored their sixth road victory on the season, which is tied for the MJHL lead with the Virden Oil Capitals.

Schoonbaert scored twice in the first period. The first was on a power-play where he entered the offensive zone, proceeded to take a lap, and moved into the slot and snapped a shot past the blocking arm of Wolverine goalie Peterson to make it 1-0. And his second was finshed on a great in-tight pass from Worrad. That made it 3-0 Pistons late in the first. Purtill scored the second goal on a backhander after a quality Wolverine power-play.

Austin Heidemann, Tyson McConnell, Will Koop, Mark Taraschuk, and McKitrick added the Pistons’ remaining six goals in the final two periods.

Wayde Johannesson replied for the Wolverines early in the third.
