The Manitoba Junior Hockey League has released the rosters for the upcoming Showcase where the MJHL battles the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League and there will be 10 Steinbach Pistons plus Head Coach Paul Dyck heading to the event.

“It’s always rewarding to see a number of your players being selected to participate in the Showcase” Dyck said after the rosters came out. “(It’s) a pay off for the work they have done to this point.”

On the U18 team, the Pistons going are forwards Brody Green and Mathis Laplante with Reece Gault and Luke Bogart going as blueliners.

The U20 team will have forwards Brett Kaiser, Grady Hoffman, Connor Paronuzzi, and Sam Noad while also having defender Noah Szabo and goalie Christian Green.

Dyck, who’s been part of the event in the past, says the leagues coming together is great for everyone. “The MJ and SJ have had a strong relationship, so it was great to see the leagues collaborate and make this Showcase a reality 7-8 years ago. It shows their commitment to player development and to provide exposure opportunities for the players.”

With so many players going, Dyck says the message to them is simple. “First of all, enjoy the event, it will become a special memory for them. They have 48 hours to make a positive impression to coaches and scouts on who they are as young men, exhibit leadership qualities and to display their on-ice abilities. If I’m one of the players, I want to hit the ground running and not have any regrets at the end of the Showcase.”

The Pistons bench boss will be coaching 20U Black. “I have been fortunate to be involved as a coach since the inception of this showcase,” Dyck explains.  “I always look forward to it. It’s a lot of fun to see the top players in the league come together to compete against one another. As coaches, it is one of the few times during the season we get to connect on another level and every year there are a few new coaches in either league that you get to meet for the first time. The time spent with coaches and scouts is always a highlight for me.”

The event will take place January 28-29 at Seven Oaks Sportsplex in Winnipeg.
