Bettens Scores First MJHL Goal in 6-1 Win Over Freeze

The Steinbach Pistons beat the Winnipeg Freeze Saturday evening in Winnipeg by a score of
6-1.

The Steinbach Pistons opened the scoring at the 14:21 mark of the first period as Nolan Bettens got his first MJHL goal off a nice shot from the point. Hunter Degelman and Cooper Rice got the assists on the goal.

The Pistons went into the first intermission up 1-0 with the shot totals 12-4 for the Pistons.

The Freeze tied the game up just over 3-minutes into the second period as Ryland Hueging got it past Pistons’ goaltender Will Hambley to make it 1-1.

Quinton Pepper restored the lead for the Pistons as Quinton Pepper tipped Bettens shot from the point making it 2-1. Zach Power got the secondary assist on the goal.

Zach Power extended the lead to 3-1 scoring with under a minute left in the second period. Langley Kruggel and Josh Nelson got the assists on the goal.

After two periods of play the Pistons were up 3-1 with the shot totals 32-14 for the Pistons.

Going into the third period the Pistons had controlled much of the game, with clean breakouts and constant pressure.

Zac Patrick extended the Pistons lead to 4-1 with a powerplay goal from Braden Birnie. Just over two minutes later the Pistons made it 5-1 as Hunter Degelman got his fifth goal of the season from Cooper Rice and Zac Patrick.

Ty Paisley got the sixth and final goal of the game, getting the puck in the crease and potting it in the wide-open net. Jackson Betcher and Zac Patrick got the assists on the goal.

The final score was 6-1 for the Pistons with the Pistons outshooting the Freeze 45-30.
