Beyak to Speak at Fire & Ice Banquet

The Steinbach Pistons are pleased to announce that they will be hosting their 7th annual Fire & Ice Banquet at Friedensfeld Hall on Monday, February 22nd. This year’s guest speaker will be TSN Jets Play-by-Play Broadcaster Dennis Beyak.

Beyak grew up in small town Manitoba in the community of Winnipegosis. From there he acquired his broadcasting diploma and turned it into his first play-by-play job with the Flin Flon Bombers back in the early 70’s.

That led to many other opportunities that included running junior hockey teams to eventually getting his first taste of the NHL when he attained a part-time play-by-play position with the Edmonton Oilers in the mid 90’s.

He then moved to become the voice of the Toronto Maple Leafs on AM640 in Toronto. In 2005 he switched from radio to television, becoming the play-by-play announcer for the Toronto Marlies.

When news broke that the Winnipeg Jets were returning to Beyak’s home province, he lobbied for the job. At the age of 60 Beyak’s dream of regularly calling television NHL games came true. He has now been the voice of the Jets on TSN since the team arrived back in Winnipeg in 2011.

In the past, the Pistons have had Stu Grimson, Craig Heisinger, Ted Irvine, Mark Chipman, Doug Brown, Kevin Cheveldayoff and Shane Hnidy speak at the annual fundraising banquet.
