The Steinbach Pistons along with Manitoba Liquor and Lotteries Impact Team (Jared Funk pictured above) recognized Chantal Brindle-Barkman as the Pistons’ Volunteer of the Month back in December.
Chantal has been volunteering with Steinbach Pistons for a quite a few years, helping file hundreds of Pistons fans into the T.G. Smith Centre at the ticket gate on any given night.
“I enjoy seeing the “regular” faces game after game, even if they tease us,” says Brindle-Barkman. “It’s fun seeing the community come out to games and then getting the chance to catch up with them. It’s also nice getting the simple thank-you from the current team, lets me know that we are appreciated.”
She has also recently started helping coordinate the team’s 7th skater sponsored by Unger Foaming Solutions. This has been a highlight for the players, fans, minor hockey players and herself.
“The smile on the young skaters carrying the Pistons flag, knowing that I was able to get these little ones on the ice with “the big boys” at the beginning of a game is the best reward,” she added.
Volunteers are an important component of any Junior ‘A’ franchise and Chantal’s dedication has been a key component on why the team has seen so much success.
“I personally would like to thank the Pistons organization for having me as the Volunteer of the Month,” said Brindle-Barkman. “I truly love helping out and hope to be able to do it for as long as I can.”
They’re lots of opportunities to join the Steinbach Pistons volunteer team. The Pistons are always looking for goal judges, security guards, ticket gate attendants, arena PA announcers, scorekeepers and the list goes on.
