Brody Green Returns to Steinbach with Championship Mindset

Returning to Steinbach for his second season, Brody Green is looking to take some big steps, and be a go-to guy for a team hungry for success.

Back in blue

“It feels good to be back,” Green says with his trademark smile. “It’s kind of my first year in a while that I’m on the same team as I was before, so it’s good to know how things work, the people around, and it’s just so good to be back.”

Starting in the Southeast Event Centre also is exciting, according to Green. “Oh man, it gets bumping. We get to kind of ease our way into it this year, last year was a little crazy. It’s so great to be playing in it, and share it with all the fans. It’s just really great.”

Experience is key

Having already played in 111 MJHL games, Green says the experience of knowing the league and what it takes to be successful is huge for him. “I feel like last year, I probably learned the most out of any year. Becoming a 200-foot player, being a complete player. I really learned a lot from last year, having to play a different role from what I’ve done before. I learned a lot and I’m looking to build on that.”

Being a returning guy, Green will also be looked upon to do damage, and early in the year, he’s put in a position to do that. “I really appreciate the opportunity,” he says with a grin. “It’s been great, and I’m going to try and make the most of it. I’m thankful they see the possibilities, so now I want to live up to it and prove them right.”

A leadership role is also something Green will taking on this year, and he’s looking forward to being an example for the new and young guys, even though he is only 17-years-old himself. “It’s been good, getting to meet everyone. Lots of new faces, and I’ve had some trouble with the names at the start, but now it’s been good getting to know everyone. I’m really happy with all of that.”

Community connection

“We’re so grateful to be a part of this community, so we all go out and volunteer as much as we can,” Green says proudly. “I’m lucky, I get to work at Pat Porter this year, and so I get to see the impact the community has on the team, and we’re lucky to be able to repay that a little big by giving back.”

Even on the road, Green notices that support. “Everywhere we go, you always see a Pistons jersey, or two. It’s pretty special, and the guys take notice. We want to represent well, they support us and we want to make them proud.”

Chip on the shoulder

Last year did not end the way Green and the Pistons wanted, but the scoring sensation says that made them angry, and that wanting to succeed burns deep throughout the team already. “I feel like no one is happy with how things ended. We think about it every day, and we’re using it as motivation to make that deep run this year, and hopefully win it. That’s what the goal is, and it’s not going to change.”

“The main goal for me is to win the championship,” Green says with a big smile. “It’s my third year, so I just need to win it. There’s nothing else I really care about other than winning. That’s my main goal and I’m focused on that. The entire room is like that. It’s like win or bust. We believe we can win a championship, and we feel we have the group to do it. We know the work starts now, and those championship details have already started. It’s a lot of fun.”
