The Pistons are off to the MJHL Showcase this week at Seven Oaks Sportsplex in Winnipeg with games on Monday night and Wednesday afternoon. Both matchups are against teams from the west division starting Monday with the OCN Blizzard who the Pistons just faced up north last weekend.
The Pistons are coming off a great weekend with 14 goals scored in 2 games and only allowing 2 in their own net over that span. The Pistons offense is starting to click and their penalty kills remains strong as it was sure put to the test this weekend.
The penalty kill has been exceptional because it’s had to be given the Pistons lead the MJHL in times short-handed with 64 and the next closest team at 51. A wise man said, ‘you can’t score short-handed if you don’t take a penalty’, which is not the way you want to try and generate offense, but Steinbach does have 3 short-handed goals this year.
The Pistons win over the Blizzard last weekend came in a shootout but the Pistons will be looking for a regulation win on Monday night no doubt.
SPECIAL TEAMS
PISTONS: PP 11/49 – 22.4% PK 57/64 – 89.1%
BLIZZARD: PP 8/54 – 14.8% PK 40/45 – 88.9%
PLAYERS TO WATCH
Pistons: Grady Hoffman
The Pistons forward picked up a quick 4 goals and added 2 helpers over the weekend against the Nighthawks and the Blues in both of the Pistons’ 7-1 wins. The Yorkton, Saskatchewan product is showing he has the ability to work hard, be in the right spot, and find the back of the net. You can expect him to be on the scoresheet quite frequently in the coming stretch.
Blizzard: Keenan McNeill
The 19-year-old forward had the Blizzard’s lone goal in their matchup against the undefeated Flyers over the weekend and shows he can find ways to score in tough games. McNeill also had 2 goals versus the the Pistons last weekend. Steinbach’s blue liners will look to keep him at bay.
Puck drop at the Seven Oaks Sportsplex is at 7pm. Catch the game on Flo Hockey or listen to voice of the Pistons Dave Anthony over at DAbroadcasting.mixlr.com.
