The Steinbach Pistons along with Manitoba Liquor and Lotteries Impact Team recognized Joyce Loewen as the Pistons’ Volunteer of the Month for January earlier this month.
Loewen has been a volunteer with the Pistons over the past few years. She says she was asked by someone if she could help out when the team was first here. She agreed and the rest is history.
Often Joyce jays says she has thought about taking a break for a year, but she then mentions that she wouldn’t know what to do with herself on the 30 plus evenings where she is helping the Pistons.
Loewen says that her favorite part about being at the ticket gate is at the start of the season when she sees all the familiar faces filing through with excitement for another brand new season of hockey.
Volunteers are an important component of any Junior ‘A’ franchise and Joyce’s dedication over the years has been a key component on why the team has seen so much success.
They’re lots of opportunities to join the Steinbach Pistons volunteer team. The Pistons are always looking for goal judges, security guards, ticket gate attendants, arena PA announcers, scorekeepers and the list goes on.
