The Steinbach Pistons have added some more scoring punch by acquiring dynamic young forward Brody Green in a trade with the Winnipeg Blues.

“It was pretty exciting,” Green said from his home in Winnipeg after the move. “My advisor called and we talked about the potential of something happening and then like a minute later, Paul Dyck calls which was super exciting. We talked about the trade process, what would come next and it was just so exciting to hear it all. I’m so honored, I’m joyful, it’s all very good.”

In his first MJHL season, Green potted 13 goals and added 22 assists. A very good season for any player but especially so for a 16-year-old.

Throughout the year, the Winnipeg product says he learned a lot about what it takes to be successful at this level. “Right from that first game of the year against Winkler, it was an eye-opening experience, it showed me how I’d have to grow as a player, and believe I did that even though the team results might not have been there.”

Green is coming in already having a connection to several current Pistons players. “I skate with Jackson (Kostiuk), we’ve skated almost every day this summer, so I know him pretty well. I’ve skated with Cole (Cairns) and Brett (Kaiser) I’ve known pretty much my whole life. I’m definitely going to know a few guys going into the room but am pumped to meet some new guys, it’s going to be fun.”

He’s also happy to be added to the inner circle of the team. “I’ve been added to the group chat already. I’m soaking it all in but joining the boys, we’re getting ramped up and ready to go.”

Coming into the 2024/25 season, Green is aware that there are expectations for the team to be at a certain level, and as a competitor, he’s looking to meet the challenge. “I watched the finals last year and I knew it was a place where I could fit in. They have the pieces in place to be a championship contender and I want to fit in, play my role, and be a part of something special.”

Being a Piston is not just about what happens on the ice, it’s about being a part of the community which is something Green is ready to embrace. “I’ve been to Steinbach quite often and I know the community and surrounding area really supports them. I’m looking forward to being in public, volunteering, and making sure the Steinbach jersey is well represented.”

For fans, Green says they can expect him to bring a level of compete each night. “I’m a pretty big guy, I can produce offensively but I can play any type of role that the team needs in order to win. I try to do as much as I can and do whatever it takes to get the win.”

Another exciting part for Green is getting to play in the new Southeast Events Centre on New Year’s Eve. “I’ve seen lots of pictures and to get to play there, it’s going to be a crazy experience. The arena is just massive and just one of the best rinks in junior hockey. It’s going to be nuts and I can’t wait to suit up and play that game against Niverville, it’s going to be crazy.”

The Pistons have their annual Celebrity Golf Tournament on Aug. 22nd followed by their traditional Power Camp for kids, hosted by several current Pistons players.
