Pistons Alumni Participating in NHL Development Camps

Former Steinbach Pistons Justin Baudry and Matthew Thiessen are taking part in different NHL Development Camps this week.

The La Broquerie native Baudry is participating at Buffalo Sabres Development Camp in Buffalo. The former Pistons’ back ender played in Steinbach from 2012-14 and spent the past four seasons at Bemidji State University, where he led the Beavers in scoring in his senior season with 31 points (9 G, 22 A) in 38 games.

After his collegiate career came to an end, Baudry signed an amateur try-out deal with the Ontario Reign in the American Hockey League and picked up an assist in his first pro game. That led him to his first pro contract shortly after as he signed with the AHL’s Rochester Americans, the affiliate of the Sabres, for the 2019-20 season.

For the second consecutive season, Thiessen is at Vancouver Canucks Development Camp in B.C.. The Altona product became the first ever Steinbach Piston to be selected in the NHL Entry Draft, when he was taken by the Canucks in 2018.

Thiessen had a remarkable 2017-18 rookie year in goal with Steinbach, as he committed to the University of Maine during the season and helped the Pistons to a Turnbull and ANAVET Cup Championship in 2018. He spent this past season as the starting goaltender with the USHL’s Dubuque Fighting Saints, and is expected to head to Maine in the fall.

The Pistons organization wishes both Justin and Matt the best as they get started this week!
