Pistons Extend Win Streak to 8 Games in 4-2 Win Over Blues

The Steinbach Pistons beat the Winnipeg Blues 4-2 Saturday evening. Tonight’s game was a big milestone for Piston’s defenceman Jackson Betcher as this was his 150th MJHL game.

The Pistons opened the scoring just under 3-minutes into the game as Zac Patrick scored on the powerplay shooting a wrist shot from the point that slid through Blues goaltender Dawson Cowan’s five hole. Assists on the play were Quinton Pepper and Davin Griffin.

Steinbach extended their lead to 2-0 just past the 11-minute mark of the first period as Davin Griffin made a nice move around the defender and passed the puck to Davis Fry in the slot, making no mistake and putting it past Cowan.

The Pistons extended their lead to 3-0 at the 15:01 mark of the period as Owen Weihs shot the puck from the right faceoff dot, squeaking the puck through Cowan and Quinton Pepper picked up the loose puck behind him in the crease scoring the easy goal.

The Pistons were up 3-0 after the first period with the shot totals 18-4 for the Pistons.

Steinbach took a 4-0 lead just over 5-minutes into the second period as Quinton Pepper scored his second goal of the game off a shot from the point that Dawson Cowan seemingly did not see. Zach Power and Bryce Kilbourne got the assists on the play.

Just over the halfway mark of the period, Piston’s defenceman Bryce Kilbourne blocked a shot off his ankle and went down in a hurry struggling to get back to his feet. Kilbourne was helped off the ice in some apparent pain in what looked like could be a bad injury. Kilbourne would come back later in the period and finished the game.

The Pistons were up 4-0 after two periods of play, while outshooting the Blues 26-11.

The Blues started the third period with some fight still left in them as they scored two goals in 16 seconds in the first two minutes with Garett Zasitko and Ryan Ostermann getting the goals.

The third period saw a bit more physical play, with some post whistle scrums. A fight broke out between Piston’s Eduard Wruck and Blues Jaden Ostrowski, which saw both players get in some good punches.

The Pistons closed out the game, beating the Winnipeg Blues 4-2.
