Pistons Down Natives, Stay Undefeated

The Steinbach Pistons, the number one ranked Junior ‘A’ team in Canada, crushed the Neepawa Natives 6-1 Saturday night in Steinbach to remain undefeated at 7-0 atop the Manitoba Junior Hockey League standings.

Tied 1-1 after the first, the Pistons scored three unanswered goals in the second to put this game away. Mackenzie Graham led the way with two goals while Carter Chorney, Landon Plett, Troy Williams and Julien Koga added singles. Darby Gula, Mark Taraschuk and Jordan Bochinski each had two assists on the night.

Bochinski is second in the league in scoring with 13 points while Graham and Plett both have seven goals in seven games to lead the MJHL in goals scored.

Roman Bengert had another strong outing in net making 25 saves for the win, with his only blemish a goal by Nathan Hillis in the opening minute of play.

Elsewhere in the MJHL Saturday night: OCN edged Winnipeg 3-2, Virden defeated Dauphin 6-2, Portage trounced Selkirk 6-1 and Winkler outscored Swan Valley 5-2.

Portage is second in the standings at 6-1 followed by the Winkler Flyers at 5-1.

Steinbach’s next game will be Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. at Winkler as the Pistons will have another early season test in attempts to keep their undefeated streak alive.
