Pistons Forward Nick Mikan Commits to University of St. Thomas

The Steinbach Pistons are proud to announce the commitment of Nick Mikan to play NCAA Div 1 hockey at the University of St. Thomas.

A native of Edina Minnesota, Nick is in his first year of junior hockey with the Steinbach Pistons. Nick has had a strong rookie season so far as he has 22 points (11 goals and 11 assists) in 29 games. Nick plays a tough game, not shying away from using his big frame to his advantage to generate scoring chances and shut down the other team.

“What led me to commit to St. Thomas was the campus, education, and the coaching staff. I know they will put together a team that will be deadly,” stated Mikan. Talking about his time so far in Steinbach Mikan commented, “The Pistons have helped my development a ton. With my first year of junior hockey, I had to learn how to play faster and have better positioning and get rid of old habits and the Pistons have helped with that.”

“Nick has been working hard at his game and has transitioned smoothly to Junior hockey” stated Head Coach and GM Paul Dyck. “He is a big body that skates well and uses his size and length to his advantage. We have seen him develop his game with an away from the puck and his confidence has grown. It’s been a lot of fun to see him progress to this point, but I think there is a lot more growth that can still occur in Nick’s game as he has a high ceiling.”

The Pistons congratulate Nick on his achievement and wish him all the best in his future hockey endeavours!
