For a second straight game, the Steinbach Pistons heavily outshot their opponent but of the 45 shots on the Portage Terrier net, none found the back of it as the Pistons were shutout 3-0 on Wednesday night.

Portage came out strong to start the game and managed to get on the board just over two minutes in as they forced a turnover at center, broke in all alone and scored to make it 1-0.

Despite giving up the first goal, the Pistons didn’t hang their heads. They put on their hard hats and work boots, forcing several turnovers inside the Portage zone but some strong saves by the Terriers netminder combined with several key blocks kept the Pistons from evening up the game.

Shots were 14-9 Steinbach but the score held 1-0 for the Terriers.

In the second, the Pistons kept searching for the equalizer but time and time again, their chances were either stopped before they got on goal or the goalie made the save.

Before the midway point, the Terriers would extend their lead to 2-0.

More pressure from Steinbach but the Portage goalie came up with some incredible saves, keeping his team up 2-0 heading in the second intermission.

In the third, Steinbach peppered the Portage goalie. Working hard in the offensive zone, the Pistons put waves of attack but the Terriers held strong.

In the final minutes, a point shot from Steinbach rang off the bar, keeping them off the board.

With under a minute to go and the net empty, it looked as though they’d solve the netminder but once again, a puck clanked off the post and somehow stayed out.

An empty netter sealed the win for Portage, handing Steinbach a very rare second consecutive loss on home ice.

Even more rare, being shutout at home.

Steinbach outshot Portage 45-25 but lost 3-0.

The Pistons power play was 0-2 while the penalty kill was 1-1.

More home games are on tap for Steinbach as they welcome in the Neepawa Titans on Saturday night.
