Pistons Pour on the Goals in 8-1 Win Over Steelers

The Steinbach Pistons beat the Selkirk Steelers by a score of 8-1 Friday evening in Steinbach.

Travis Hensrud got the night started for the Pistons as he scored on a breakaway at the 11:13 mark of the first period. Jackson Betcher and Hunter Degelman got the assists on the play.

Jack Rogers added to the Pistons lead making it 2-0 as the Steelers were disoriented on a change, leaving Rogers to pick up the loose puck and putting it post and in.

The Steelers made sure to not go into the first intermission scoreless as Spencer Penner scored with 7 seconds left in the first period, getting it past Pistons’ goaltender Will Hambley.

After the first period the Pistons were up 2-0 over the Steelers with the shot totals 15-11 for the Pistons.

Zac Patrick restored the Pistons 2-goal lead as he put one glove side on Cole Plowman on the powerplay with Zach Power getting the assist.

Jack Rogers got his second goal of the night as Ty Paisley made a nice move getting into the offensive zone and backhanded it to Rogers on the doorstep who made no mistake putting it in the net.

The Pistons struck again quickly, as Travis Hensrud got his second of the night tipping Jackson Betcher’s shot from the point just 12 seconds after the previous goal.

Travis Hensrud completed the hat trick with 6 seconds left in the second period as Hensrud and Owen Weihs had a shorthanded 2 on 1. Hensrud slid it five hole with Owen Weihs getting the assist.

The Pistons were up 6-1 after the second period with the 31-26 for the Steelers.

The Pistons struck again shorthanded as Zach Power made a nice move scoring on the backhand which was the lucky 7th goal giving everyone free pancakes at Smitty’s in Steinbach.

Owen Weihs closed out the scoring for the Pistons as Jack Rogers’ shot deflected off Weihs’ hip and past Cole Plowman.

The Pistons secured the 8-1 win and will face the Steelers again tomorrow night in Selkirk.
