Pistons Thank Graduating Player Simon Harkness

The Steinbach Pistons would like to thank and congratulate Simon Harkness on an amazing junior hockey career!

A native of Calgary Alberta, Simon started his junior career with the Brockville Braves of the CCHL. In 2019/2020 Simon appeared in 10 games for the Braves, with a 2.66 GAA and 0.913 SV%. Simon then made the move to the MJHL where he would join the Steinbach Pistons for the start of the 2020/2021 season. Due to this season being shortened because of Covid, Simon only played in 4 games for the Pistons having a 1.97 GAA and a 0.914 SV%. Simon’s first full season with the Pistons was this past season where he was a part of a goalie tandem with Will Hambley. In 21 regular season games Simon had a 2.63 GAA and a 0.905 SV%. Simon’s strong goaltending carried over into the playoffs where Simon had a 3.01 GAA and a 0.902 SV% over 8 games.

“Looking back on my time in Steinbach, it was a blast. I enjoyed every day, whether it was the game day routines, the bus rides, the practices or even just volunteering” Harkness stated on his time in Steinbach. “I loved being a part of the culture we had built in that room and in the community, and it showed with how much the fans got behind us in the playoffs. I’m definitely going to miss my time in Steinbach!”

Simon was a big part of the Pistons success this season and his strong, composed play in net. Simon thrived in high stress situations, staying calm under pressure, and making key saves when it was needed. He was also a big part of the locker room and a leader on the team. Simon stepped up to help and volunteer when needed and even dressed up as the mascot Clutch for some events. Simon will definitely be missed around the rink and the Pistons wish him all the best in his future hockey endeavours!
