The Steinbach Pistons made the score close in the second period but never really had their mojo working, eventually losing to the Dauphin Kings 5-2 on Saturday night.
It was the 7th straight road game for Steinbach with their last home game being on November 16th.
Dauphin managed to open the scoring early in the first period, turning a couple of missed assignments in the defensive zone into a 1-0 lead.
Sam Noad got the game back to even as the 19-year-old knocked a loose puck home for his 7th of the year, making it a 1-1 game just past the halfway point of the first.
The Kings responded with a pair of goals before the period was through, including a power play goal with just two seconds left in the first.
In the second, Steinbach would get a little closer thanks to a power play of their own. Luke Bogart took a pass from Connor Paronuzzi and let a shot go from the point. Mathis Laplante got a piece of the shot and celebrated his 11th of the season.
3-2 would be as close as the Pistons would get to evening up the game.
With just over a minute to go in the second, the Kings scored again to extend the lead to 4-2.
They’d add another in the third and despite some power play time, Steinbach couldn’t climb out of the hole they dug themselves and took a 5-2 loss.
Christian Green was solid and bailed his team out a couple of times but was hit with the loss, giving him a 15-3 record after making 22 saves.
The power play waws 1-5 while the penalty kill was 1-2.
No rest for Steinbach as they have a game back at home on Sunday night vs the Winnipeg Freeze.
Game Notes:
Steinbach was without Jackson Kostiuk and Reece Gagult, both of whom made Team Canada West at the Junior A Challenge. Their first game is against Sweden on Monday.
