The Steinbach Pistons’ young guns showed well in their first competition of the 2015/2016 campaign, defeating the Selkirk Steelers 7-2 Monday night at the T.G. Smith Centre.
The Pistons showed a lot of energy early, capitalizing with two first period goals on the power play by Dawson Waddell and Ste Anne’s Vaughn Dupre.
The Steelers were able to score an early second-period goal, but Steinbach quickly regained the momentum with 5 unanswered goals. Caleb Paisley, Eric Lecuyer, Tyson McConnell, William Cruise and Thomas Hansell all excited the over 300 Pistons fans in attendance.
Ryan Hall started in net for Steinbach steering away 11-of-12 shots in this period and half of play. Bennett Garber played the other half making 8 saves on 9 shots.
Many of the players that were a part of rookie camp will be continuing their journey with the Pistons who begin their main training camp Tuesday morning at 10 AM. The Pistons next exhibition game is this Friday when the team travels to play in Fort Frances against the Lakers.
