The Steinbach Pistons beat the Winnipeg Freeze 13-0 Sunday afternoon in Steinbach. Prior to puck drop Pistons forward Quinton Pepper and goaltender Will Hambley were recognized for being named to the MJHL’s first and second all-star team.
The Pistons got to work fast as they scored two goals in the first minute of the game. Jack Rogers scored the first goal of the game, with Nate Goodbrandson giving him a sweet feed on a 2 on 0 and potting it in the open net. Zach Power 8 seconds later as he put a wrist shot past Michael O’Sullivan making it 2-0.
The Pistons made it 3-0 with 3-minutes left in the first period as Braden Birnie made a beautiful no-look pass behind the net to Quinton Pepper who put it in the net.
The Pistons were up 3-0 after the first period with the shot totals 14-10 for Steinbach.
Ty Paisley scored the first goal in the second period on the powerplay putting the Pistons up
4-0. The puck bounced around in the crease, with O’Sullivan losing track of it. Paisley found the loose puck and tapped it in.
Travis Hensrud made it 5-0 as he capitalized on a Freeze turnover, giving it to him right in front of the net and potting it unassisted.
Jack Rogers got his second goal of the game, making it 6-0 on a beautiful net drive and scoring as he dove over O’Sullivan’s pad.
Dawson Milliken got the final goal of the second period on the powerplay as he found a loose puck in the crease, putting it past O’Sullivan.
The Pistons were up 7-0 after two periods of play, outshooting the Freeze 34-18.
Jack Rogers got the hattrick goal just under 2-minutes into the third period as he got a one timer in the slot, ripping it past O’Sullivan.
Rogers would get his fourth of the game just over 4-minutes later as Nate Goodbrandson gave him a nice feed in the slot right in front of the goal. Rogers made no mistake and shot it past O’Sullivan making it 9-0.
Zach Power brought the lead to double digits as he got a pass from Ethan Johnson in the slot. Power had a lot of space, so he moved towards the net, looking for a backdoor feed to Braden Birnie but accidentally squeaked it through O’Sullivan’s five hole making it 10-0.
Nate Goodbrandson and Jack Rogers got back to work on the 2 on 1 as Rogers got his fifth goal of the game making it 11-0.
Ty Paisley got his second goal of the game under a minute later as he put it off O’Sullivan’s back and into the net making 12-0.
Braden Birnie capped off the Pistons’ 13 goal night with Quinton Pepper giving him a beautiful backdoor feed. Birnie made no mistake and redirected it past O’Sullivan making it 13-0.
Simon Harkness secured the 27-save shutout and made some highlight reel saves, closing the door on a 2 on 0 in the second period and making some other amazing desperation saves.
