As the Steinbach Pistons prepare for another exciting season at the Southeast Event Centre, we’re continuing to catch up with members of the Pistons community to hear what makes being a season ticket holder so special.
While some season ticket holders have been cheering on the Pistons for years, others have recently joined the season ticket community and discovered what makes game nights so special.
One of those newer season ticket holders is Dr. Kevin Friesen and his wife Melissa Friesen from Steinbach Dental.
Steinbach Dental has been a Pistons season ticket holder for the past two seasons and is set to enter its third season this year.
A perk for the team
For Kevin, the idea of becoming a season ticket holder first came about as the Southeast Event Centre was being built.
“Back in 2024, we had thought about it,” he recalls. “When they started building the Southeast Event Centre, we thought it would be a good idea as it is something we could offer to the staff as a perk.”What started as a way to provide something enjoyable for the Steinbach Dental team has turned into an experience Kevin and his wife have also come to enjoy.
“The main thing is offering an opportunity for our staff to experience the games and the Southeast Event Centre and experience the Pistons hockey,” Kevin explains. “But at the games, we see a lot of people that we know and it’s kind of like a family atmosphere, and it’s just a lot of fun.”
More than just hockey
For Kevin, one of the biggest draws of Pistons games is the opportunity to connect with
people throughout the community.
“I also enjoy connecting with other people and business owners at the game,” he says. “It is interesting to see where things are at with their businesses and personal lives.”
Those connections are just one part of what makes a Pistons game more than simply a night at the rink. For Kevin’s wife, Melissa, it’s the atmosphere inside the Southeast Event Centre that makes the experience so enjoyable.
“And the games are so fun,” she says. “We are always high-fiving the people around us, and the atmosphere is pretty electric.”
Great value close to home
Beyond the atmosphere and community connections, Kevin says the value of the season tickets is another major reason Steinbach Dental continues to renew.
“It’s a good idea, no reason not to. There are a lot of reasons to do it,” he explains. “It’s excellent value, it’s not expensive, it’s close by right here in Steinbach so it’s easy to get to games and there’s no problem with parking. The whole atmosphere is really exciting and the hockey is fantastic.”
For a business, the flexibility of season tickets is another benefit. Tickets can be used by staff members, shared with others or enjoyed by Kevin and his wife.
“Having season tickets commits you to attending the games or giving the tickets away to someone else who wants to attend the games,” says Kevin. “The benefit is we get to support the team, support the local hockey programs and also offer the tickets to our staff or other people who haven’t been to a game.”
That flexibility has made season tickets a valuable way for Steinbach Dental to support the Pistons while also giving its staff an opportunity to experience the excitement of Junior A hockey.
