Wasik Shuts the Door as Pistons Take 3-1 Series Lead

The Steinbach Pistons bested the Winkler Flyers 1-0 in a hard fought, battle of the goalies Wednesday evening to take a 3-1 series lead.

Both teams’ special teams got ample opportunities in the first period with the Flyers going 3/3 on the PK and Steinbach going 2/2.

After the first period of play the game was tied 0-0 with the Pistons outshooting the Flyers 11-10.

Steinbach came out firing in the second period, opening the scoring just over a minute into the period. Landon Roberts broke the puck out to Leo Chambers who entered the offensive zone with Nick Mikan on a partial two on one. Chambers got it to Mikan at the right faceoff dot who put it blocker side and into the back of the net to make it 1-0.

After two periods of play, Steinbach went into the second intermission up 1-0 with the shot totals 18-15 for Steinbach.

Wasik once again really settled in down the stretch in the third period making some big, timely saves to keep the Pistons in the lead. Pretty much anything he could get eyes on was a safe bet that Wasik would direct it to the corner or cover it up.

Steinbach would smother the final push by the Flyers as they pulled their goalie with a minute and a half to go. Steinbach now heads back home with a 3-1 lead with a chance to clinch the series Friday night at the TG Smith Centre.
