Head Coach and GM Paul Dyck has been right there every step of the way, alongside his brother Russ, and he had to pause when asked to talk about the space that to him, is more than just an area for hockey players.
“Depending where you start, you just walk into the locker room, there’s a lot of nice touches. We wanted to create something that would be around for a long, long time. Something that was timeless and something several generations of players could come through that room and create special memories. A very special part is the logo on the ceiling. It’s gorgeous. We were inspired by a number of different facilities. It’s 8-feet and now we don’t have to worry about stepping on it. Our ceiling is another feature, wood slat ceiling, really unique looking.”
Dyck says very proudly that many local trades played major roles in making this dream a reality.
Some of the details that the coach wanted to point out include the ventilation system, the stereo setup, the ceiling, and the lighting. “The ventilation system is dynamite. It allows for the equipment to dry at a much quicker rate and in theory, eliminating scent,” Dyck pauses to chuckle, reflecting on the smells of locker rooms from years past. “We’ll see how that works, we’ll dial that in. Some of the technology that’s incorporated. Most rooms, guys will bring in a speaker but here, it’s built in. The blue ambient lighting, the padded seats, the ability to do video in the room. The quality of the millwork, the stick rack and the amazing lockers themselves.
The first Steinbach Pistons game at the Southeast Event Centre is scheduled to be played on March 14th, with another game the next night on the 15th.
