Last Minute Moves at Roster Deadline

The Manitoba Junior Hockey League’s 23 player roster deadline came and gone this past weekend and the Steinbach Pistons made a few more tweaks to their roster in preparation for the final quarter of the season.

The Pistons sent 17 year-old defenseman Braden Compton back down to his Manitoba ‘AAA’ Midget team in Brandon and then acquired 18 year-old forward Brodie Buhler from the SJHL’s Melville Millionaires for future considerations.

Compton’s days on the Pistons blue-line are far from done. The Pistons may still call him up to be an alternate player for a maximum of 10 games during the ‘AAA’ Midget season. But once Compton’s team is eliminated or wins the championship the Pistons may use him in the line-up as much as they want if need be.

After the acquisition of Buhler, the Pistons now have a total of 14 forwards and 7 defensemen. The Pistons coaching staff says the 5’ 10’’ 180lb forward from Revelstoke, British Columbia will bring some more grit to the line-up.

Buhler spent last season in the Kootenay International Junior Hockey League playing for the Revelstoke Grizzlies where he scored 14 goals and 10 assists for 24 points and 150 penalty minutes in 50 games. He was then acquired by the Millionaires this season where he played 9 games, accumulating 1 assist and 33 penalty minutes.

Buhler will be in the Pistons line-up when they host the Neepawa Natives Wednesday, January 14th.
