HEAD COACH AND GENERAL MANAGER - PAUL DYCK
A Steinbach native, Paul returned to his home town after a lengthy playing career. He began his junior career in the MJHL with the Dauphin Kings followed by 2 seasons in the WHL with the Moose Jaw Warriors. Paul was drafted by the Pittsburgh Penguins in 1991 and signed with the team that fall. His professional playing career spanned 15 years and saw him play over 1000 games and attend 7 NHL training camps. He won an IHL title with the Houston Aeros 1999 where he played for coach Dave Tippett. Paul completed his career in Germany winning a DEL Championship with the Krefeld Pinguine in 2003 and played in the 2003 Spengler Cup in Davos, Switzerland.
He joined the Steinbach Pistons in 2010 as an assistant coach and was named Head Coach and General Manager in August of 2012. The past 6 seasons have seen the Pistons post a regular season record of 254-83-23 and have played a league high 102 post season games. Under Paul's leadership, the Pistons captured the 2013 MJHL Championship and advanced to the Western Canada Cup. 2017-18 was the most successful season yet, as the Pistons won both the 2018 MJHL and ANAVET Cup championships, and went to the national junior 'A' championship for the first time. The Pistons have seen nearly 30 players develop and move on to a higher level during the past 4 years.
Paul won a Gold Medal with Team Canada West as an Assistant Coach at the 2015 World Junior A Challenge. He served as a Guest Coach/Evaluator for Team Canada West during the 2013 and 2014 World Jr A. Challenge. He was named Head Coach for Team Canada West at the 2015 CJHL Prospects and led them to a 3-2 victory over Team Canada East.
ASSISTANT COACH - CALVIN BUGYIK
Calvin moves into junior ‘A’ after a successful and decorated coaching tenure in midget hockey. He played 2 years of junior hockey as a goaltender with the Melfort Mustangs of the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League from 1999-2001.
Bugyik has been in the Eastman region for around 10 years, undertaking many coaching roles during this time. He was the assistant and head coach of the Hockey Manitoba Directors Cup Prospects team, and the Eastman City Selects of the Winnipeg City ‘AAA’ Midget Hockey League. He spent three years from 2013-16 as Head Coach of the Selects in the Manitoba ‘AAA’ Midget Hockey League, guiding them to a 93-28-11 record in that span. For the past two years he has been an assistant coach with the Winnipeg Wild of the MMHL, helping them win championships in both seasons.
