10th Annual Fire and Ice Banquet Featuring Clint Malarchuk

The Steinbach Pistons are pleased to announce that the team will be hosting their 10th annual Fire and Ice Banquet once again at the Niverville Heritage Centre on Monday, February 25th at 5:30 pm.

This year’s guest speaker is former NHL goaltender Clint Malarchuk. Nicknamed “The Cowboy Goalie”, Malarchuk played professionally for 15 years from 1981-1996 including time with the Quebec Nordiques, Washington Capitals, and the Buffalo Sabres.

Malarchuk is famously known for a near-tragic accident back in 1989 while playing with the Sabres, when an errant skate blade caught his neck and nearly killed him on the ice.

During and after his playing career ended, Malarchuk’s life spiraled out of control in where he suffered from depression, post-traumatic stress disorder, and alcoholism after the life-threatening injury.

Along with his wife Joanie, Malarchuk is now an advocate for mental illness and PTSD, and travels all across the country to speak at various conferences and events about different mental health topics. He wrote the best-selling book The Crazy Game: How I Survived in the Crease and Beyond back in 2014.

In the past, the Pistons have had speakers such as Craig Heisinger, Mark Chipman, Doug Brown, Kevin Cheveldayoff, Dennis Beyak, Andrew Harris, and Paul Maurice speak at the fundraising banquet.

To purchase tickets for the 10th annual Fire and Ice Banquet, call 204-346-1604 or email [email protected]. A single ticket is $150 and a table of 8 is $1,000.
