Former Steinbach Pistons forward Brody Green scored the eventual game-winning goal with just over five minutes left in the third period, helping the Dauphin Kings edge Steinbach 3-2 in regulation tonight at Southeast Event Centre.
“Just came out flat today, didn’t get it going, you know,” said Pistons head coach Paul Dyck, reflecting on the loss with Dave Anthony. “You could feel it on the bench, bench was quiet, which is usually never a great sign. It’s just a little disappointing.”
On top of the off night, Steinbach found itself shorthanded six times in tonight’s contest, with the Kings capitalizing on two power-play opportunities to help secure the win.
For Steinbach, there were still some positives. The power play was a big factor, as both of the Pistons’ goals came on the man advantage, despite going two-for-four. Rohan Guevarra fired in his third of the year past Tate Barnaby 9:11 into the first to tie the game at 1-1, and Griffin Krone netted his fourth of the campaign early in the second.
Lincoln Molind, who also started last night in Niverville, stopped 28 shots.
“I thought Moulsy did everything he could tonight to help us come away with a couple of points,” said Dyck of the 19-year-old goaltender’s performance.
The Pistons will have plenty of time to practice and regroup before their next matchup against the Swan Valley Stampeders on Oct. 17, when they close out their two-game homestand. Puck drop is set for 7:00 p.m. CT.
