Kilroy Commits to Saint John’s University

The Steinbach Pistons are excited to announce that graduating forward Jack Kilroy has committed to Saint John’s University of NCAA Division III hockey.

Kilroy spent two seasons with the Pistons beginning in 2018. In his first year, the Denver native suited up in 56 games played and registered 5 goals and 12 points in the 2018-19 season. In the playoffs, Kilroy scored twice in 12 postseason games including a double-overtime goal that sent Steinbach to the second round in the 2019 playoffs.

He was hampered by injuries for most of the 2019-20 season, but he was named an assistant captain and put up 2 goals and 3 assists in 23 games during the year and was an integral part of the regular season champs.

“I am very excited for Jack and his academic and hockey future,“ Head Coach/GM Paul Dyck said. “He brings a workmanlike approach to the arena every day and always leads by example.”

Saint John’s University is located in St. Joseph, Minnesota and play out of the MIAC conference. “I wanted to go to Saint John’s because of the great academic and athletic tradition that it has, along with being part of a great tight-knit community, “ Kilroy said. “The hockey program is strong and I can’t wait to get started.“

Dyck says that Kilroy was the classic glue guy and was an essential piece to the Pistons this season. “Jack always has a team first mentality which will no doubt be of great benefit to him as he enters into the next chapter of his playing career and life beyond the game.” he complimented.

When asked for his favorite memories with his teammates, Kilroy says he’ll remember the ones he made in the dressing room and on the bus. “I was very fortunate to be able to play on such a great team with a fantastic group of guys who really cared about one another,” he explained. “My favorite memory this year had to be clinching first place and sweeping our first round of the playoffs.”

The end to the 2019-20 season has been shocking to the whole junior ‘A’ hockey community, but Kilroy says he’s grateful to played the final years of his junior career in Steinbach. “The ending to the season wasn’t what anyone wanted and I was very disappointed by it, but I’m truly thankful for the opportunity I had to play in Steinbach in front of the best fans and for the best organization in junior hockey,” he said.

“I feel that my game has matured a lot over these last two years thanks to Paul and the rest of the staff,” he finished. “I felt that I really found who I was as a player and embraced it fully.”
