Oil Caps Upset Pistons in 3-2 Win

The Steinbach Pistons fell to the Virden Oil Capitals Friday evening by a score of 3-2 at the TG Smith Centre.

The Pistons got on the board first, taking a 1-0 lead just over a minute into the game. Nick Mikan got the puck at the right faceoff dot and took it around the net, scoring on the wraparound.

The Pistons would go to the powerplay midway through the first period but would spoil it as Ian Amsbaugh would take a high-sticking penalty, making it 4 on 4.

The Oil Capitals would tie the game up at the 14:54 mark of the first period. Andrew Blocker stripped the puck from the Pistons defenceman at the centre ice and put the puck over the blocker of Dominik Wasik to make it 1-1.

The game would go into the first intermission tied 1-1 with the shot totals 12-11 for the Oil Capitals.

The Oil Capitals would take the lead with a powerplay goal early in the second period. Virden put a shot on net from the point with Brody Wilson finding the rebound and putting it past Wasik to make it 2-1.

Virden would extend their lead to 2-goals with another powerplay goal. Colten Miller took a shot from the high slot and Brody Wilson found the puck and put it in for his second goal of the game.

Steinbach would bring the game back to within 1 with a powerplay goal of their own. Warren Clark got the puck to Kirk Mullen at the right faceoff dot who put it on net with Ian Amsbaugh getting the loose puck at the side of the net and one timing it in the open net to make it 3-2.

The Pistons would battle hard in the third period but could not find the tying goal as the Oil Capitals would hold on for the 3-2 win.
