Pistons and Community Raise $9,000 for Cancer Support

The Steinbach Pistons organization is proud to announce a successful collaboration with Southeast Cancer Support Services (SCSS) that raised $9,000 to empower their mission in the region. This partnership brought the community together for a special night of hockey and hope, demonstrating the power of teamwork both on and off the ice.

A Partnership for Hope

Earlier this month, the Pistons joined forces with SCSS to dedicate a game night to raising crucial funds and awareness for their important work. The event was designed to shine a light on the vital support SCSS provides to individuals and families in the community who are navigating a cancer diagnosis.

To mark the occasion, the team wore specially designed hockey-for-hope jerseys, generously sponsored by GNM Jewellers. These unique jerseys symbolized the collective fight against cancer and our community’s commitment to supporting those affected by it.

An Evening of Emotion and Support

The arena concourse buzzed with activity as SCSS set up a booth to connect directly with fans. This gave the organization a platform to share information about their services and host their own fundraising initiatives, allowing attendees to learn more about the impact of their support.

One of the most moving moments of the night was the ceremonial puck drop. The crowd gave a heartfelt welcome to two special guests who have been directly supported by SCSS. Mary Coleman Pelletier, who was recently diagnosed with breast cancer, and two-year-old Hannah Wiebe, the youngest client supported by the organization, took to the ice for the emotional moment. Their presence served as a powerful reminder of the real people at the heart of SCSS’s mission.

Fans Rally for the Cause

The incredible generosity of the Pistons community was on full display throughout the evening. Fans had multiple opportunities to contribute and show their support. Many visited the SCSS booth on the concourse to make donations and learn more about the organization’s work.

Throughout the game, stories from individuals supported by SCSS were shared on the video screen, deepening the connection between the cause and the community. A major highlight was the auction for the special edition hockey-for-hope jerseys, with fans eagerly bidding for a chance to own a piece of this memorable night while contributing to a great cause.

Celebrating a Community Victory

The fundraising efforts culminated in a special pre-game ceremony at a recent Pistons game. Cindy Rempel Patrick, Executive Director of SCSS, and Heather Jowett, Chair of the Board of Directors, were invited onto the ice to receive the proceeds from the event.

Steinbach Pistons Head Coach Paul Dyck had the honor of presenting a cheque for $9,000 to the SCSS representatives. The moment celebrated the successful partnership and the incredible spirit of a community that came together to provide hope and make a tangible difference in the lives of their neighbors. The Steinbach Pistons organization extends a sincere thank you to the fans, sponsors, and volunteers who made this achievement possible.
