Pistons Spending time in Grunthal

The Steinbach Pistons faced off against the Grunthal Pirates in a fun, but competitive game of floor hockey at the Garden Valley School in Grunthal.

The grade 5, 6 and 7 students filled the gym to watch a 20 minute game that saw random students picked from the crowd to play five minute intervals against the Steinbach Pistons.

The Game even had a penalty box and a guest referee. The ref ended up sending Steinbach to the box on three occessions and all three times the Pirate captialized, going 3-for-3 on the power play.

“We have the best penalty kill in the MJHL, but couldn’t kill off a penalty in Grunthal,” said Pistons Captain Jordan Bochinski with a wide grin.

The scored after 20 minutes was 10-10, so both teams sent three shooters to deciede it in a shoot-out. And the Pirates were the only ones to score, giving them the 11-10 win.

Following the game, prizes were handed out on behalf of the Pistons and Recycle Everywhere. And then it was time for autographs. Students snacked around the gym waiting for their chance to meet Jordan Bochinksi, Danny Pion, Tyson McConnell and Riley Bruce.

The Pistons will continue their tour of local schools this week with a visit to Woodlawn Elementary in Steinbach on Thursday and then Steinbach Christian School, Steinbach’s Elmdale Elementary, Mitchell Elementary School, Kleefeld School, New Bothwell School and Steinbach Clearspring school over the next month.
