A couple of Steinbach Pistons picked up league awards for their play this season.

Noah Szabo won the Brian Kozak Top Defenseman Award in the Manitoba Junior Hockey League.

“Obviously it meant a lot. There are a lot of incredible guys in the league that easily could have got it,” says Szabo. “But I just felt really honored that I got the opportunity to get the award.”

He credits Coach Paul Dyck for motivating him to work hard over the summer, in preparation for hockey season.

“I talked to Paul before the end of last year in our exit interview and we just talked about how summer is huge for any year, and I just took that really to heart and really grinded through the summer and just came in this year with a different mindset.”

The Kim Davis Rookie of the Year Award went to Pistons forward Grady Hoffman.

“It was funny talking to my friends, none of them really expected me to get Rookie of the Year, but yeah, I’m pretty thankful. I’m pretty honored.”

He says it’s quite an honour to be added to the list of Pistons players who have picked up this award in previous seasons.

“I don’t really know how to put it into words, it’s really something to think about and it’s kind of crazy that my name’s on that list now. So, then I can’t let them down.”

The Manitoba Junior Hockey League Awards were handed out earlier this week.
