Anderson, Worrad, Gula Named Conference All-Academics

Three Steinbach Pistons alumni; Tyler Anderson, Drew Worrad, and Darby Gula, have been recognized for their work in the classroom by being named to their respective NCAA Division I academic all-conference teams.

Anderson, a senior defenceman playing for St. Cloud State University, was named to the Academic All-Conference Team while also being honoured as a NCHC Distinguished Scholar-Athlete. This is the fourth straight season that Anderson has been named to this team, and the third consecutive year that he has been honoured as a Distinguished Scholar Athlete.

The two-year Pistons defenceman from 2015-17 has played in 33 career collegiate games, registering an assist and a solid +1 rating during his career with the Huskies. The graduating d-man is looking to head into medical school after St. Cloud State.

Worrad, currently a junior forward at Western Michigan University, has also been named to the NCHC Academic All-Conference Team for the third straight season and has also been honoured as an NCHC Distinguished Scholar-Athlete for a third time. The Birr, Ontario native and 2018 MJHL and ANAVET Cup MVP has had a breakout season for his Broncos, leading the team in scoring with 22 points in 24 games.

Playing his 20-year-old season in Steinbach, Worrad had one of the best offensive seasons in franchise history three years ago, putting up 75 points in 47 games played.

Gula, currently playing his junior season at Bemidji State University, was named to the WCHA Academic All-Conference Team and a WCHA Distinguished Scholar-Athlete for the second straight season.

The three-year Piston (’15-’18) and 2018 MJHL Top Defenceman has become a lineup regular for the Beavers during his third collegiate season; playing in 23 games and recording 1 goal, 2 assists, and has a +4 rating which is fourth on the team. The Steinbach native is currently majoring in business administration.

Congratulations to Tyler, Drew, and Darby on their accomplishments in the classroom this season! Best of luck to you both in the NCHC Frozen Faceoff Tournament and the WCHA Playoffs this week!
