Compass Coach Lines Road Report – Jan 14 @ Niverville Nighthawks

Nothing better than changing things up a little with a short road trip to Niverville for a Sunday afternoon matchup with the Nighthawks.

The Pistons have been rolling along swimmingly since the start of 2024, most recently coming off of a 7-0 win over the Swan Valley Stampeders on Friday night. Newly acquired forward Trey Sauder, who came from the Stamps, had 2 goals in his first contest against his former team.

The Pistons are now 3-0 to kick off the second half and extend their win streak to 6. The Pistons last loss was actually to the Nighthawks was exactly one month ago on December 13th at the HyLife Centre.

The Nighthawks also made some improvements around the trade deadline adding some offense, also from the Stampoeders. Niverville acquired Alex Walicki who currently sits 8th in the MJHL in points.

The Nighthawks are coming off of a 7-1 win over the Blues on Saturday night. Prior to that, they had two tough losses to the Winkler Flyers last weekend where, in both games, they had a sizeable lead and slowly saw it widdle away.

The Pistons are kicking into gear as their lineup continues to get healthier, specifically on the back end with the return of both David Cote and Shane Burns. Another huge addition to the lineup will be Jack Cook who is expected to get back on the blue line in the next week or so.

The Pistons will be looking to keep the win streak going on Sunday while the Nighthawks will be looking to make a statement versus the MJHL’s first place team in an effort to further secure their playoff spot.

PLAYERS TO WATCH

Pistons: David Cote

Since making his return from injury in January, the 20-year-old defenseman had a great start in his opening weekend tallying up 1 goal and 3 assits in 2 games. A great boost for his confidence no doubt as he continues to chase his goal of playing division 1 hockey next season. Lookout for David to be an impactful player on Sunday in Niverville.

Walicki picked up an assist in his first game as a Nighthawk on Saturday night. The veteran forward sits 8th in the MJHl points race with 11 goals and 26 assists for a total of 37 points.
