Hockey Night in Richer

The Steinbach Pistons participated in their 4th annual Hockey Night in Richer last week at the Richer Fellowship Church.

Connor Martin, Scott Petkau, Jeremy Wik and the Pistons’ Chaplain Mike Kehler took the 25-minute drive to be a part of the church’s modified Awana Clubs event.  The evening consisted of playing floor hockey, eating snacks,  singing songs, signing autographs and sharing about life.

There were 11 kids who took part in the event and they were all smiles getting this opportunity to interact with the Pistons on a personal level. And when it came time to sharing, Martin stepped up to share his testimony on how he became a Christian.

Kehler said it was a great opportunity to get out in the community, but also a great opportunity to stretch the players personally off the ice. The Pistons also presented all the kids with free tickets to attend an upcoming Pistons game in the weeks ahead.

Being a Steinbach Pistons player is bigger than just suiting up on game days.  The organization has made a goal to reach 1500 hours of volunteerism in the community, helping with minor hockey practices, mentoring kids in and out of schools and assisting with local charities like Southeast Helping Hands and enVision Community Living to name a few.
