Pistons acquire D Williams from Terriers

With almost three weeks to go until main camp begins, the Pistons have pulled off their first trade of the offseason by welcoming back a familiar face.

Steinbach has acquired D Troy Williams (’98) from the Portage Terriers in exchange for the CJHL Playing Rights of F Cole Tymkin (’99) and future considerations.

With the loss of graduating defenceman such as Mark Taraschuk and Mark Wilson, and with Darby Gula off to Bemidji State University for the upcoming season, Williams returns to Steinbach hoping to help them repeat as Turnbull and ANAVET Cup Champions. Williams spent part of 2016/17 with the Pistons before being dealt to the Flin Flon Bombers of the SJHL.

“Troy fills a need for our team, and he also happens to be one of the top D-men in the MJHL that brings a wealth of experience to our back end,“ Pistons Head Coach and General Manager Paul Dyck said of the move. “He has a tremendous shot, very good vision, has an edge to his game, and is an excellent teammate. It will be great to have him back in blue.”

Williams recorded 3 goals and 11 assists in 27 games in his first stint with Steinbach. He played two games last year with the Melville Millionaires before spending the majority of last season in Portage, scoring 6 goals and 26 assists in 47 games.

Tymkin has spent the past two seasons with the OHL’s London Knights, posting 26 points (8 G and 18 A) in the 2017-18 season.

The Pistons would like to welcome Troy back to the Auto City!
