Pistons Blank Oil Caps in Back-to-Back Games to Go Up 2-0

The Steinbach Pistons shutout the Oil Capitals for the second game in a row as they beat them 3-0 Sunday night at the TG Smith Centre.

The Pistons opened the scoring midway through the first period to make it 1-0. Kirk Mullen got the puck to Ty Paisley has he entered the offensive zone and then ripped the puck blocker side and past Eric Reid.

The Pistons got into a bit of penalty trouble to start the second period as David Cote got a hit to the head penalty with Langley Kruggel and Parker Jasper getting penalties shortly after. Steinbach successfully killed off the all the penalties to keep the 1-0 lead.

At the end of the Jasper penalty kill Virden would take a too many men penalty giving the Pistons a shortened powerplay. The Pistons would capitalize on the opportunity making it 2-0. Warren Clark entered the Virden zone on a partial 3 on 1 with Clark finding a trailing Ty Paisley who potted his second of the game blocker side.

Steinbach would get a couple more powerplay opportunities in the second half of the second period but could not capitalize on the opportunities and the game would head to second intermission with the Pistons leading 2-0.

The Pistons would extend their lead to 3-0 midway through the third period. Dawson Milliken shot the puck wide behind the Virden net with Mullen getting the puck and tapping it out front to Davin Griffin who flipped it over Reid’s shoulder and into the net.

With time starting to run out for the Virden Oil Capitals, the game started to have some extracurriculars with a scrum ensuing at the ten-minute mark of the third period. Everyone found a man to hug, and a makeshift doggy pile resulted.

Steinbach would close out the game 3-0, with Wasik getting his second shutout in a row stopping 31/31.
