It was another profitable weekend through the Manitoba northwest as the Steinbach Pistons won three games in three nights on the road, capping it off with a 5-1 victory over the Swan Valley Stampeders Sunday night at Swan River.
That came on the heels of a beautiful 4-3-overtime, comeback victory over the Dauphin Kings Friday in Dauphin and then a a 7-2 triumph Saturday at Neepawa.
The Pistons took a 1-0 lead in the first on a Dan Taillefer goal last night at Swan River, then exploded for four unanswered goals in the second as they coasted to a 5-1 decision over the Stampeders.
Cole Smith, Scott Petkau, Tyson McConnell and Robert Briem were the other Steinbach goal scorers.
Cody Ellingson beat Roman Bengert for Swan Valley’s lone goal as he scored five minutes into the third on the powerplay. Steinbach outshot Swan Valley 41-27.
The Pistons, now 44-10-4 on the season, have set franchise records for wins and points in a single season. With their strong weekend performance the Pistons have also clinched second place as they are six points ahead of the Winkler Flyers, each with two games remaining.
