The Flyers Force Game 7 With 3-1 Win

The Winkler Flyers have forced a game 7 with a 3-1 game 6 win over the Steinbach Pistons Sunday afternoon in Winkler.

The Winkler Flyers opened the scoring at the 8:18 mark of the first period with a powerplay goal. Connor Jensen found Gavin Waltz with a backdoor feed who then put it past Wasik to make it 1-0.

With just over three and a half minutes remaining in the opening frame Steinbach would tie the game up 1-1. Davis Fry got hooked on a breakaway and was awarded a penalty shot. Fry came in at a moderate pace and snuck the puck through the five hole and into the net to even up the score.

Just over a minute into the second period Winkler would restore the one goal lead. Kyle Crewe got the puck to Zach Nicolas entering the zone who then ripped the puck top corner over the glove of Wasik to make it 2-1.

Steinbach would get some powerplays at the end of the second and a couple in the third period, but they could not generate anything. Winkler’s lock down penalty kill would consistently get pucks out of their zone and the not give the Steinbach powerplay anything to work with.

Winkler would extend their lead to 3-1 at the 9:22 mark of the third period. Mike Svenson would put a puck on net from the slot with Wasik making the original save, but the puck got loose and a net front fleury resulted in Logan Fillion tapping the puck into the net.

Steinbach would get a 4-minute powerplay late in third period but could not generate anything. Landon Roberts would take a roughing penalty late into the powerplay negating the rest of the man advantage.

Dominik Wasik would make some top notch saves in the second half of the third period to keep the Pistons within shouting distance but in the end Winkler would close out the game, forcing a game 7 with both teams now on the chopping block.
