Pelland named Manitoba Liquor and Lotteries Volunteer of the Month

The Steinbach Pistons along with Manitoba Liquor and Lotteries recognized Norbert Pelland as the Volunteer of the Month this past week.

He was honoured with this recognition on Friday when the Pistons took on the Oil Caps by Manitoba Liquor and Lotteries representative Claude Plante.

Pelland has been volunteering with the team for the past three seasons as a security guard.

When asked about one of his favourite moments during his time volunteering with the Pistons, he chose the time that he spoke at length with Colin Mathison, an Paralympic athlete, when he recently attended a home game.

Belland officiated hockey for 24 years before retiring due to cancer treatment. He loves hockey, and being with the Pistons gives him a chance to continue to watch the game he loves. “I love being involved in the game one way or the other,” he explained. “I enjoy making the game safe & fun for everyone.”

There are tons of different opportunities to join a dedicated group of volunteers with the Steinbach Pistons. We are looking for volunteers all the time during game days, including ticket gate attendants, security guards like Norbert, goal judges, score keepers, photographers, and PA announcers. We have now just put up our LED Screen, and so we are now looking for volunteers to help us run it on game days. Now needed are camera operators, and people to help run video switcher, instant replay, and graphics. If you want to take your support of the Pistons to the next level email [email protected] for more details.
