Pistons Ink Pair of Trades to Start the Summer

The first trade the Pistons made was with the Winnipeg Blues. In the trade it saw the Pistons send over two prospects, forward Cole Penner (’06) and defenceman Blake Goretzki (’05) and receive forward Brandon Funk (’05) in return. Funk has played two seasons in the MJHL split between the Portage Terriers and Winnipeg Blues. In the 2021-2022 season with the Portage Terriers Funk got 19 points (12 goals and 7 assists) with 81 PIMs in 49 games. This past season saw Funk get traded midway through the season to the Blues. In the 2022-2023 season over 52 games, Funk had 40 points (18 goals and 22 assists). The Pistons are excited with the addition of Brandon Funk and look forward to the impact he will make with his offensive talent and scoring touch.

The second trade the Pistons made was with the Waywayseecappo Wolverines, seeing the Pistons send forward Neo Kiemeney (’03) to the Wolverines and receive a 2023 third round pick and future considerations in return. Neo had played 105 regular season games for the Pistons over parts of the last four seasons. Over that span, Neo had 45 points (14 goals and 21 assists). Neo will be missed in Steinbach and the Pistons wish him all the best in the future!
